I truly appreciated your very kind compliments and I must tell you that your presence on Bombs Lullaby was more than Bombadier... it was a steadying influence that encouraged our entire crew including myself. You may not have ever realized how good it was, how inspiring for all of us on intercom, to hear your voice, while on bomb run and over target. You did, if you recall, do most of the talking at those crucial, horrible moments while all of us held our breath's and were unable to talk; and the tone of your voice was either angry or puzzled, but never, never reflected "fear." Do you know what that was worth to me... the entire crew? You always had an excellent rapport with all of them, and that had a lot to do with it.
